1739 - GEORGE WHITEFIELD:

On February 17, 1739, George Whitefield held the first of many open air preaching services. The first was held at Kingswood in England to 200 people, including many coal miners. In the many services held in the future throughout both Britain and America, Whitefield was to experience the blessing of God upon his ministry in what became known as the Great Awakening. At times upwards of 20 000 would gather to hear him preach, with many hundreds being saved by the grace of God.
