On this day in 1484, Swiss Reformer Ulrih Zwingli was born in Switzerland.

 

1793 - SAMUEL MARSDEN:

On January 1, 1793, Samuel Marsden was appointed the assistant chaplain for the colony of New South Wales. He was to assist the already serving chaplain, Richard Johnson.

 

1937 - J. GRESHAM MACHEN:

On this day in 1937, J. Gresham Machen died.
