1115 - PETER THE HERMIT:

French monk Peter the Hermit died. He was said to have gone on a pilgrimage in 1093 to Jerusalem and when he returned he pleaded to pope Urban II to do something to stop Islamic harassment of Christians during their pilgrimages to the holy land. With this plea the crusades were launched, with the first crusade beginning two years later.
