64 - FIRE OF ROME:

On this day in 64 AD the Fire of Rome began. This fire was blamed by Nero on the Christians. A persecution of Christians followed in it's wake.

 

1504 - HENRY BULLINGER:

On this day in 1504, Swiss Reformer Henry Bullinger was born in Switzerland. Bullinger would eventually succeed Zwingli as pastor of the Zurich Church.

 

1688 - JOHN BUNYAN:

On this day in 1688, John Bunyan preached his final sermon in London.

 

1838 - CHRISTMAS EVANS:

On this day in 1638, the famous Welsh preacher Christmas Evans died.

 

1870 - VATICAN I COUNCIL:

On this day in 1870, Papal infallibility when speaking ex cathedra was formally accepted by Roman Catholicism at the Vatican I Council.
