INTRODUCTION:

James Aitkin Wylie was born at Kirriemuir in Scotland on the 9th August, 1808. He obtained his preaching license on the 1st December 1829. Wylie was ordained into the Christian ministry in Dollar on the 20th April, 1831, having studied at the Original Seccession Divinity Hall in Edinburgh. There he studies under Thomas M'Crie, the biographer of the great John Knox. Previous to his time at the Divinty Hall, Wylie had studied at Marischal College in Aberdeen and St. Andrews at Fife. He ministered at Dollar for 15 years.

In 1846 he became the sub-editor of the Edinburgh Witness. In 1852 he joined the then youthful Free Church of Scotland. He was the editor of the Free Church Record until 1860.

In 1860 he became the lecturer on popery at the Protestant Institute. Wylie continued in his role at the Protestant Institute until his death on the 1st May, 1890. At the time of his death he had just completed the third book in his 'History of the Scottish Nation' and therefore it remains to this day an uncompleted work.

His works included the classics of 'The Papacy: Its History, Dogmas, Genius and Prospects (published in 1851)' and 'The History of Protestantism (published in 1878).' Both of these works will be featured at the Aussie Outpost in due time. 'History of the Scottish Nation' will also be hosted here.
