The Lilley/Matthews Mailout - November 2003

Issue Seven

It is the end of another year, with yet another about to start - one that is shaping up as an exciting year for Kevin's Family - Online History Site! With major work review now completed on my other sites (Aussie Outpost and Kevin's Wilderness Journeys), it is now time to get into work on this site. How much is there to be done? In short... plenty!

I have a lot of work to do with the various photos, both online and offline, as well as making them easier to get at for visitors to my site. I am hoping to set them up in a similar manner to what I have done with the wilderness journeys site (no need to become a member of Image Station, etc). This will take a lot of time, but the end result will be worth it.

There is the ongoing work of the family tree, with plenty more material to be added and hopefully an updated version of the tree to go online. This is itself is a huge job, let alone the work to go into the production of a hard copy version of the tree, complete with a written family history. This I hope to at least make significant headway in, if not completion in the coming year (at least for a first edition).

There is much work still to be done with the Australian history part of the site, with mountains of material to be added. I am hoping to be close to completing the current NSW history project by the end of this year, with many others planned for the coming year. I am hoping to complete a short history of Boolaroo (my home town) in the coming year, which should now be assisted by a valuable resource I have recently come across.

So as you can see there is plenty yet to be done here and though it has been quiet recently, it will all soon pick up.

If you have any material that may be of assistance and you are willing to give it or lend it to me, please contact me via email at nrbcpastorkev@yahoo.com.au . I am especially interested in gaining photographs, historical documents, etc.

Website Update

It has been very quiet with the site in recent weeks, but there is plenty of work soon to begin (see the editorial above for more details).

Australian History

Australian History is now available via the 'Kevin's Family - Online History Site.' I have been able to get online a full version of Watkin Tench's, 'A Complete Account of the Settlement of Port Jackson.' This work is some 19 chapters relating the history of the first couple of years of settlement in Australia from 1788 by a man who was actually there as a British officer in the marines. 'A Narrative of the Expedition to Botany Bay' also by Tench, covering the period from setting out for Botany Bay to the founding of the colony of Sydney in 1788 is also available online. Both of these volumes are available in a printed format.

Also becoming available is the much larger work by G B Barton, 'History of New South Wales From the Records - Volume 1: Governor Phillip 1783-1789.' Sadly, I only have volume 1 of this work, so it would seem that only the one volume will become available online. Still, it is a huge work of some 600 plus pages, so there will be plenty of information relating to early Australian settlement, etc.

So as you can see, there is plenty happening in this area of the site also. As the site becomes more well known I think it will become an important one for the content that will be available regarding Australia's history.

Kevin's Wilderness Journeys

Interested in looking at photos of places I have been over the years - then Kevin's Wilderness Journeys is the place to go. Here you will photos and information regarding various places throughout Australia. A fair amount of the information currently on the site was put together before the web site came about, so it's a little light on some information. All new trips I take will have more detailed information, links, etc.

Find out about the last trip I went on by clicking on the banner below. It was a 76km trek across the Barrington Tops.
