The Lilley/Matthews Mailout - October 2003
Issue Six
Welcome to the sixth issue of the Lilley/Matthews Mailout, a newletter for not only the Lilley and Matthews families, but also for those who are friends of, or related to, the Lilley and Matthews families. It has taken a little while for this issue to come out, mainly because I forgot about it - sorry about that folks!
The site continues to grow, even though it may be a slow growth. Work is still going on behind the scenes so to speak, especially on the family tree. I welcome any contributions to the site that may be of interest to the family's history - whether it be directly related materials or indirectly related, such as information relating to the towns in which family members lived, etc.
If you have any material that may be of assistance and you are willing to give it or lend it to me, please contact me via email at nrbcpastorkev@yahoo.com.au I am especially interested in gaining photographs, historical documents, etc.
CONTENTS:
Website Update
Even though it has been a while since a newsletter went out, the site hasn't changed a lot - at least from what I can remember. A lot more information has been added on Australian history, especially by way of the 'History of New South Wales From the Records,' by G. B. Barton. There is also some new content by way of a book on William Dampier.
There is still a lot of work behind the scenes, with plenty of content being made ready for inclusion on the site.
Mail Groups and Communities
If you have some familial relationship to the Lilley or Matthews family, please consider joining The Lilley Family Mail Group or The Matthews Family Mail Group for the purpose of receiving Emails from different family members all at the same time and being able to therefore share in a continuing online discussion with one another. All you have to do to join any of the mail groups is simply enter your email address below and press enter. It's that simple and you will then be able to participate with other family members in on-going discussions about what's happening in the family, with people you all know, etc. Give it a whirl.

Australian History
Australian History is now available via the 'Kevin's Family - Online History Site.' I have been able to get online a full version of Watkin Tench's, 'A Complete Account of the Settlement of Port Jackson.' This work is some 19 chapters relating the history of the first couple of years of settlement in Australia from 1788 by a man who was actually there as a British officer in the marines. 'A Narrative of the Expedition to Botany Bay' also by Tench, covering the period from setting out for Botany Bay to the founding of the colony of Sydney in 1788 is also available online. Both of these volumes are available in a printed format.
Also becoming available is the much larger work by G B Barton, 'History of New South Wales From the Records - Volume 1: Governor Phillip 1783-1789.' Sadly, I only have volume 1 of this work, so it would seem that only the one volume will become available online. Still, it is a huge work of some 600 plus pages, so there will be plenty of information relating to early Australian settlement, etc.
So as you can see, there is plenty happening in this area of the site also. As the site becomes more well known I think it will become an important one for the content that will be available regarding Australia's history.
I have in mind to put online quite a few more works regarding Australian history, including works relating to the early exploration of Australia. Also some of the important Australian literature will make its way online in month's to come.
Kevin's Wilderness Journeys
The Wilderness Journeys site has had quite a few updates in the last few months, including news and photos relating to a number of trips I've taken in the last 6 months or so. Areas visited include Kooragang Island, Barrington Tops National Park, Watagans National Park and the Mount Royal National Park.
Interested in looking at photos of places I have been over the years - then Kevin's Wilderness Journeys is the place to go. Here you will photos and information regarding various places throughout Australia. A fair amount of the information currently on the site was put together before the web site came about, so it's a little light on some information currently. All new trips I take will have more detailed information, links, etc.
