The Lilley/Matthews Mailout - December 2002
Issue Three
Welcome to The Lilley/Matthews Mailout for December 2002. A lot has happened in the months up until now at the Kevin Matthews Online History Site since the last newsletter. Not online, but behind the scenes. Plenty will be happening over the coming weeks to bring the site up to speed as regards current research into the family history, etc.
If you have any material that may be of assistance and you are willing to give it or lend it to me, please contact me via email at nrbcpastorkev@yahoo.com.au I am especially interested in gaining photographs, historical documents, etc.
While I'm raving on here, a special thanks to my uncle Norman Lilley for passing on a box full of genealogical material concerning the Lilley family that he has been researching for sometime. I'm not sure if the baton has now been passed onto me or not as regards continuing research, but I will do my best with what I have and am able to yet glean, etc.
So far most information relates to my mother's side of my family tree (Lilley, Blanch, Jenkinson, Baggs, etc). However, I am making a few small steps in the direction of my father's side of my family tree. Any help with information, etc, on this side of my family tree will also be appreciated.

Website Update
Well what's been happening at the site - not a lot at first glance. Yet many hours of work have been going on behind the scenes and the fruit of this labour is now making its way to the site. What work I hear you ask? It is the adding of some 5500 names (not quite that many yet) to my software database and transforming it to make it available on the web. This process will include some 10 000 plus files to be uploaded to the site.
The family tree is not yet completely available online, but I have begun to upload the files and these will become increasingly available in the coming weeks. Perhaps I'll put up about 100-200 files a day (it's a slow process).
Visit the family tree page for more information and to access the tree.
Mail Groups and Communities
Please consider joining The Lilley Family Mail Group or The Matthews Family Mail Group also, for the purpose of receiving Emails from different family members all at the same time and being able to therefore share in a continuing online discussion with one another. All you have to do to join any of the mail groups is simply enter your email address below and press enter. It's that simple and you will then be able to participate with other family members in on-going discussions about what's happening in the family, with people you all know, etc. Give it a whirl.

Family Tree
I have been trying to put together the family tree and put it online for all interested parties, however I have hit a snag for the time being. The software I have been using has a bug and I need to wait until the next version is available. They tell me at GenoPro that they are addressing the bug in the new version. So sadly, until then the family tree is not going very far.
That's what I thought a few months ago anyway. Now I have a new software program that I am using to put together the family tree. Visit the family tree page for more information and to access the tree via this new program.
Otherwise to view what is currently available with GenoPro, please take the time to download the excellent family tree software from GenoPro (though it has a bug or two currently) or you will not be able to view the Family Tree. This product is in fact shareware, but you are able to still use it for free. It's only 1.4 Mb, so it won't take very long to download and then install. This may be done via the GenoPro homepage at http://www.genopro.com/.
When you have successfully installed the software, click on the link to my family tree and check the button for open from here. The family tree will then open in your Internet browser. Note that is best to be using Internet Explorer 3.0 or later to view the family tree. If you don't have this installed you will need to have an Internet browser with an ActiveX plug-in.
Another suggestion would be to actually right click on the link to my family tree and open it in another window. If you do this you can simply close the window when you have finished viewing it. Apparently in some browsers you are unable to use the back button when you have finished viewing the family tree, therefore a separate window is probably best.
So what's the link to the family tree - here it is now: Kevin Matthews Family Tree.
If you are able to give information that will help in putting the family tree together, please pass it on to me. I'm looking for records, photos, background information, etc.
Kevin's Wilderness Journeys
Interested in looking at photos of places I have been over the years - then Kevin's Wilderness Journeys is the place to go. Here you will photos and information regarding various places throughout Australia. A fair amount of the information currently on the site was put together before the web site came about, so it's a little light on some information currently. All new trips I take will have more detailed information, links, etc.
I have recently updated the photos available on the site to include the last trip to Kaputar National Park, not far from Narrabri.
