The Lilley/Matthews Mailout - February 2003
Issue Five

Welcome to The Lilley/Matthews Mailout for February 2003.

Again, thanks must go out to those who are continuing to assist me in the building of my family and history site. Over the last month or so I have been given invaluable (I think that's the correct word) assistance, with much family genealogical information and photographs. Please keep it coming if you are able to do so - the more information and photos, the better the site will become.

If you have any material that may be of assistance and you are willing to give it or lend it to me, please contact me via email at nrbcpastorkev@yahoo.com.au . I am especially interested in gaining photographs, historical documents, etc.

CONTENTS:

Website Update

What can I tell you about what has been added to the site over the last month? Well, to begin with, I have added some more photos to the photo albums. In fact I have added a new album, the Lilley Family History 2 album. Just go the photos page and click on the link to the album. You will need to join the Photo site to view them, which is nothing too difficult (just follow the instructions given).

There are also photos being added relating to the Matthews side of the family. These are not all online yet, but they will be over the next month or so. While speaking of the Matthews side of the family, you'll also find some articles and poetry written by my grandfather.

A little further down the page you'll find some more information about new content on the site. This has to do with Australian history, so read on for that.

You'll also notice a change in the name of the site when you next visit. The site is no longer just family history, but Australian history also. Why so? Well, a good amount of my family's history (especially on my mother's side) has to do with Australia and since I also live in Australia, I thought this would be useful by way of background information. Also being a Patriotic Australian, I know little is online regarding Australian history (at least of worthwhile content).

Mail Groups and Communities

If you have some familial relationship to the Lilley or Matthews family, please consider joining The Lilley Family Mail Group or The Matthews Family Mail Group for the purpose of receiving Emails from different family members all at the same time and being able to therefore share in a continuing online discussion with one another. All you have to do to join any of the mail groups is simply enter your email address below and press enter. It's that simple and you will then be able to participate with other family members in on-going discussions about what's happening in the family, with people you all know, etc. Give it a whirl.

Please join us here and make this site a meeting place for those in the family around the world.

Please note that the community groups listed with MSN have been dis-continued. In my opinion, Yahoo Mail Groups are the better option.

Family Tree

Visit the family tree page for more information and to access the tree.

The family tree has not long been through a make-over, reflecting the fact that a lot more information has been added to it over the last couple of months. All this information is now available via the website, including the Matthews side (which was largely missing in the previous version). I have even more information to add to the family tree, but this will not be available online for a few months.

If you are able to give information that will help in putting the family tree together, please pass it on to me. I'm looking for records, photos, background information, etc.

Australian History

Australian History is now becoming available via the 'Kevin's Family - Online History Site.' I have been able to get online a full version of Watkin Tench's, 'A Complete Account of the Settlement of Port Jackson.' This work is some 19 chapters relating the history of the first couple of years of settlement in Australia from 1788 by a man who was actually there as a British officer in the marines. I have also been working on an earlier work by the same officer called 'A Narrative of the Expedition to Botany Bay.' This work covers the period from setting out for Botany Bay to the founding of the colony of Sydney in 1788. I expect the full version of this work to be online in the next week or so.

Also becoming available is the much larger work by G B Barton, 'History of New South Wales From the Records - Volume 1: Governor Phillip 1783-1789.' Sadly, I only have volume 1 of this work, so it would seem that only the one volume will become available online. Still, it is a huge work of some 600 plus pages, so there will be plenty of information relating to early Australian settlement, etc.

So as you can see, there is plenty happening in this area of the site also. As the site becomes more well known I think it will become an important one for the content that will be available regarding Australia's history.

I have in mind to put online quite a few more works regarding Australian history, including works relating to the early exploration of Australia. Also some of the important Australian literature will make its way online in month's to come.

Kevin's Wilderness Journeys

The Wilderness Journeys site has had a few updates in the last month, so you might be interested in having a look. There isn't any new photos at this stage, but I have added a bit more information concerning various national parks and trips. Well worth a look if your planning a trip in Oz.

Interested in looking at photos of places I have been over the years - then Kevin's Wilderness Journeys is the place to go. Here you will photos and information regarding various places throughout Australia. A fair amount of the information currently on the site was put together before the web site came about, so it's a little light on some information currently. All new trips I take will have more detailed information, links, etc.

I have been busy trying to get more photos from my trips online, as well as building new photo albums for them. Keep going back to the site, because it is always improving (at least I think it is).
