The Lilley/Matthews Mailout - July 22, 2002

Welcome to The Lilley/Matthews Mailout for July 22, 2002. Firstly a thank you to those who have given me a loan of photos and other various forms of information. It all helps of course and slowly this family online history site is beginning to take shape. Anything that you can loan or send to me regarding my family will be welcomed and if it's of any historical significance at all (even slightly) I will try and use it on the site.

What sort of things can be used? Well it may be photos, historical documents, background information on places where family members lived, momentos, etc. See, just about anything. I can try and make it all tie together somehow.

One of my aims with this site is to make as widely available as possible (for family members far and wide) anything of consequence to our family. There may be some one interested in our family roots, some one that wants to see what somebody looked like, some one that wants to see where the family came from, etc. Over time I hope this site may be able to provide some answers.

Anyhow, I hope you find this particular issue of 'The Lilley/Matthews Mailout' useful.

CONTENTS:

Website Update

Well I have finally got on with some new work at the web site, though no great leaps ahead. The main increase in content is in the way of photos now available at 'The Lilley/Matthews Photo Album.' There are a couple of the photo albums that have no photos yet, but the majority of them do. Perhaps you have more photos that I could add to the albums? Give me a yell if you do and we'll see what we can arrange. Contact me via email at nrbcpastorkev@yahoo.com.au

Please remember that this site is all about our family history, so anything of relevance to that can be added to the site here. I'm very liberal when it comes to an interpretation of that theme, so please let me know about anything that may have even the slightest relevance.

Mail Groups and Communities

Please consider joining The Lilley Family Mail Group or The Matthews Family Mail Group also, for the purpose of receiving Emails from different family members all at the same time and being able to therefore share in a continuing online discussion with one another. All you have to do to join any of the mail groups is simply enter your email address below and press enter. It's that simple and you will then be able to participate with other family members in on-going discussions about what's happening in the family, with people you all know, etc. Give it a whirl.

Family Tree

I have been trying to put together the family tree and put it online for all interested parties, however I have hit a snag for the time being. The software I have been using has a bug and I need to wait until the next version is available. They tell me at GenoPro that they are addressing the bug in the new version. So sadly, until then the family tree is not going very far.

To view what is currently available please take the time to download the excellent family tree software from GenoPro (though it has a bug or two currently) or you will not be able to view the Family Tree. This product is in fact shareware, but you are able to still use it for free. It's only 1.4 Mb, so it won't take very long to download and then install. This may be done via the GenoPro homepage at http://www.genopro.com/.

When you have successfully installed the software, click on the link to my family tree and check the button for open from here. The family tree will then open in your Internet browser. Note that is best to be using Internet Explorer 3.0 or later to view the family tree. If you don't have this installed you will need to have an Internet browser with an ActiveX plug-in.

Another suggestion would be to actually right click on the link to my family tree and open it in another window. If you do this you can simply close the window when you have finished viewing it. Apparently in some browsers you are unable to use the back button when you have finished viewing the family tree, therefore a separate window is probably best.

So what's the link to the family tree - here it is now: Kevin Matthews Family Tree.

If you are able to give information that will help in putting the family tree together, please pass it on to me. I'm looking for records, photos, background information, etc.

Kevin's Wilderness Journeys

Interested in looking at photos of places I have been over the years - then Kevin's Wilderness Journeys is the place to go. Here you will photos and information regarding various places throughout Australia. A fair amount of the information currently on the site was put together before the web site came about, so it's a little light on some information currently. All new trips I take will have more detailed information, links, etc.

I have recently updated the photos available on the site to include the last trip to Kaputar National Park, not far from Narrabri.

The Lilley/Matthews Family Forum

The Kevin Matthews Family Online History Site also has a forum called The Lilley/Matthews Family Forum. The theory behind the forum is that visitors to the site can post questions or comments regarding the site, the family or whatever. Others can then view the questions or comments and reply to them - all on the site.

Feel free to pop in to the forum and leave a comment. I do intend to police the forum a little and remove bad language, etc.
