Dedicated to Hiroshima:
Arthur Matthews
Over the years I have put pen to paper many times for various reasons. This was my last effort. Some of my own pieces have been seen in print in various journals and newsletters of assoc. I belong to but a lot have been lost. Many times I have been told I should take up writing in some way but I've never got down to it. This was always printed as a chance for someone to show how clever they were. So here it is. Who am I - no prize given (The first letter of each line works out to my name).
Arthur Matthews
Aftermath of man's intolerance,
Rows of crosses in the gloom
Throwing out man's senseless message
Heralding our final doom.
Urged on by hate - greed - violence
Ruthless passions at fever heat,
Make certain of death's eternal silence
Attended by annihilations feat
Too quickly for man's great endeavour
Then ends his trails of life forever,
Horror of our modern living,
Ever present at mankind's call,
Were used against, instead of giving
Service; for the use of all
