Issue 22 - 20/01/2005

Welcome to the latest issue of 'Kevin's Outpost.' This issue brings you a fair bit of new content and information here at the Aussie Outpost site. There will be some links to content that has been on the site for some time as well, but content that you may not be aware of. Anyhow, I hope you enjoy this issue and find it profitable and useful.

CONTENTS:

THE LIFE OF JOHN BRADFORD:

John Bradford was born at Manchester about the year 1510.  His parents gave him a good education.  He was a hard student from his youth, and his skill in accounts procured him employment under sir John Harrington, treasurer and paymaster of the English forces in France.  The abilities he manifested in this situation obtained him considerable esteem, and, as Fox expresses, “he continued certain years in a right honest and good trade of life, after the course of this world, likely to have come forward, if his mind could have so liked, or had been given to the world as many others.”  His office he resigned, apparently not be willing to connive at some abuses by which the king was defrauded to a considerable amount.

KEVIN'S FAMILY - HISTORY SITE:

There isn't a lot of news to add about this site at the moment. All that I have really done in the last couple of months is to make all the photos available to view without the need of having to register with Image Station or any other photo hosting site. They are now all available to view from my site itself.

BIBLE STUDIES:

Over the years I have had the privilege of leading several Bible Study groups. A good percentage of this material is now available on the web site or in the process of being made ready to place on the web site.

With one group we studied the book of Isaiah for several years, with the studies currently online representing only a very small proportion of what we studied (I think we got to about Isaiah 40). I do plan to add the remaining material once I have the opportunity to revise it thoroughly.

With a couple of the other Bible Study groups we studied the book of Romans. I think I was able to complete these studies with several groups. The study material is now fully revised and available online in both PDF and HTML formats. I would encourage anyone who finds the material useful to download it and print it off for further circulation (if you think it will be of any value for Bible Study groups, etc). You will find the studies at:

http://particularbaptist.com/bstudies/bsromans.html

There are other Bible studies available online, but these are not yet completed to the extent that the Romans series is. The Genesis series is the first Bible Study series that I am preparing exclusively for the web (or for some future Bible Study group yet to appear as well). The studies that are completed at the moment number 17 (up to Genesis 6:1-8) and these are completed to a similar standard as those in the Romans series. These are to be found at:

http://particularbaptist.com/bstudies/bsgenesis.html

I was also able to complete a series on the book of Revelation in a couple of groups and these I hope to have online some time in the near future.

All the Bible Studies currently available online can be found at:
http://particularbaptist.com/bstudies/bstudies.html

If you would like to be receive the Bible Study material as soon as it becomes available there is a Bible Study Mail Group that can be joined. So far there has been little in the way of any discussion on the Bible Studies themselves, but perhaps this will happen in the future (I see this as a possible future profitable use of the group). A FRUITFUL TREATISE, AND FULL OF HEAVENLY CONSOLATION AGAINST THE FEAR OF DEATH - John Bradford:

Make no tarrying to turn unto the Lord; and put not off from day to day: for suddenly shall his wrath come, and in the day of vengeance he shall destroy thee. Stand fast in the way of the Lord, be steadfast in thine understanding, and follow the word of peace and righteousness.

Being minded, through the help of God, for my own comfort and the encouraging of others, to speak something of death, at whose door, though I have stood a great while, yet, according to man’s judgment, never so near as I do now, I think it most requisite to call and cry for thy help, O blessed Saviour Jesus Christ, who hast destroyed death by thy death, and brought in place thereof life and immortality, as appears by the gospel. Grant to me true and lively faith, whereby men pass from death to eternal life; that of practice, and not of mere speculation, I may write something concerning death, which is dreadful out of thee, and in itself, to the glory of thy holy name, to my own comfort in thee, and to the edifying of all them, to whom this my writing shall come, to be read or heard. Amen.

There are four kinds of death; one, which is natural, another which is spiritual, a third which is temporal, and a fourth which is eternal. Concerning the first and the last, what they are I need not declare; but the second and third, perchance, are not so soon espied by the simple (uninstructed, editor), for whose sake especially I write.

THEOLOGY RESOURCES:

One of my aims with the Aussie Outpost web site is to provide a good resource pool for what I call the 'average Reformed Baptist.' I don't mean that in a bad way, but in the sense of the believer that may struggle to get hold of good reading material, not be able to get to a good church or Bible Study group, etc. I think the site has begun to reach this point, though it has a long way still to go.

There are several ways that I am attempting to provide good theological material to believers through the web site. One is by simply putting good material online myself. To do this I have a theology page with theological articles added, etc. This can be found at:

http://particularbaptist.com/theology/theology.html

I'm not all that impressed with how the material is currently presented and hope to improve the presentation in the future so that it is in a more readable form for downloading and printing, etc. The newest material I hope to add in this more presentable manner.

I have also added a School of Theology to assist believers. Obviously this school won't be of much help to the experts or more advanced theological thinkers, but I think it has the potential to assist a good number of believers. It is no where near completion at this stage, but I am slowly getting there. Find the School of Theology at:

http://particularbaptist.com/theology/nrbcsotheology.html

I have also attempted to make the best of what is available on the web accessible through an online 'library.' In reality it's a library of links to good theological resources that are on the web. I have just completed an update of the library, removing all the old dead links. Hopefully I'll be able to add a lot more links in the near future. Visit the library at:

BY WHAT MEANS MAY MINISTERS BEST WIN SOULS - Robert Traill:

The words are a substantial part of the good counsel and direction the apostle gives to Timothy, and through him to all the ministers of the gospel.

In them are two things:

1. A threefold duty laid on gospel-ministers, Take heed unto thyself, and unto thy doctrine; continue in them.

2. A double advantage consequent upon the discharge of this duty: For in doing this, thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.

AROUND THE WICKET GATE - Charles Haddon Spurgeon:

Millions of men are in the outlying regions, far off from God and peace; for these we pray, and to these we give warning. But just now we have to do with a smaller company, who are not far from the kingdom, but have come right up to the wicket gate which stands at the head of the way of life. One would think that they would hasten to enter, for a free and open invitation is placed over the entrance, the porter waits to welcome them, and there is but this one way to eternal life.

AUSSIE OUTPOST WEBSITE:

News at the Aussie Outpost:

KEVIN'S WILDERNESS JOURNEYS:

I have recently returned from a holiday break and will return to work next week. During my time away from work I was able to do a little travelling and visited quite a few areas around the eastern half of New South Wales, here in Australia. Some short accounts of my trips, as well as photos, are now posted on the web site. The places I visited included the Warrumbungle National Park and the Hawkesbury region, to the north-west of Sydney. See the relevant pages at:

I have been busy adding more content to the site recently, including many updates to the New South Wales section of the site.
