Welcome to the November 2002 'Aussie Outpost Wider Church Prayer Letter.' Though replacing the NRBC wider church prayer letter, this magazine is pretty much the same thing by way of actual content.
Why the name change? Well you may not have heard - Northlake's Reformed Baptist Church (NRBC) is no more. The church disbanded in mid-October. 'The Aussie Reformed Baptist Outpost' will seek to continue the work of NRBC in this area of Australia. The work is currently of a pioneering nature I think you could say, with no sure knowledge of what the future direction of ministry here might be. Please continue to pray for Newcastle in Australia, that the Lord might build his church in this place.
I hope to begin new outreach work in this area in coming weeks, once I am sure just how I might go about the work.
Oh yeah, the web sites are still here and being slowly changed over to 'The Aussie Reformed Baptist Outpost' at: http://particularbaptist.com/index.html. Thank you for your past support.
INDIA
Biblical Baptist ChurchThe church under Pastor Billa Nelson has been conduction outreach work in an area called Lower Hutta. Follow up work is needed. Please pray for the outcome of the work.
The roof of the old church building was blown away in a storm, along with broken windows and other damage. Power and phone lines were down for three days. Many homes and lives were lost. The church has been seeking to assist local victims of the storm, but with little financial ability this is proving difficult.
$1900US is needed to put a roof on the new church building in November. Money has been borrowed and obviously needs to be repaid. If anyone can assist this faithful church to meet the costs of a large and growing ministry in India, with the various building costs that the church has to meet, please try and do so. The needs are great and the work is urgent. Contact me for more information on how you might be able to help this Indian church at: nrbcpastorkev@yahoo.com.au
VIETNAM
The situation in Vietnam continues as was reported in the October prayer letter, with the government seeking to exterminate Christianity by the end of 2002.
Tribal believers among the Hmong people are being pressured by the government to return to Animism. Church meetings are banned. The people are expected to post an 'evil-spirit' symbol on their homes to prove they have finished with Christianity. Failure to do so is resulting in fines of up to the equivalent of five months wages. Homes are also being searched for Christian material, which when found is to be burned.
MAURITIUS
James DeutschJames has been facing growing opposition to Reformed Baptist Truths and has been labeled a false teacher in the Bible Institute in which he teaches, as well as a local Baptist Church.
PAKISTAN
Pakistan is home to 145 million mainly Muslim people. Many of these appear linked to Islamic Militants. Christians have freedom of religion, but are increasingly being targeted by terrorists. Only 0.5% of the population are Evangelical Christians. There is a great need for missionaries and pastors, Bibles and Bible translation work, and Christian literature.
PHILIPPINES
Cubao Reformed Baptist ChurchThe Reformed Baptist Association was launched in October in order to bring about closer ties between the churches.
Many people have been attending the meetings of Cubao, with 27 recently attending a membership class. Floor space is becoming a problem due to the increased numbers attending.
A large number of former Pentecostal ministers and students are also attending, with two Pentecostal churches withdrawing from their denomination because of their now Reformed faith.
ECUADOR
David and Mary SillsPlease pray that the Sills' family might know what the Lord would have them to do in future ministry. They are currently contemplating what direction future service might take. All they want is what He wants.
Pastor Joselito Orellana recently took over the Rector role at the seminary from David, with David continuing as a professor there.
There are also high levels of concern for US citizens living in Quito as targets of terrorism. Please pray for the Lord's sovereign protection for the Sills' family.
